On Monday the Nephi Fire Department had their winter party. The food was delicious. I wish I could have ate more, but with my surgery I am still not up to eating much and for most things with flavor....I just can't eat! They had beef, creamed corn, potatoes and gravy, salad, and rolls. I think my favorite was the creamed corn. I would really like that recipe. For desert they had brownies with ice cream and chocolate drizzeled on the top and whipped cream. Yum! To bad I could only have a couple of bites, and that was pushing it for me! The firemen were debating rather to wear ties or not for the pictures. Guess what...Darin lost out. No way....That can't be Darin putting on a tie!
You can see me and Julie in the far back standing up....ya, we are standing directly under the heater so we could get warm. We were freezing! Kurtis had to give the list of reports for the year. And then to top the night off...the annual Firemen PicturesAnd then the Officer photo.
It was a nice party. Just wish I could have enjoyed the food more, and that I had my portable heater with me. HA HA HA
Yip,Yip, I am now ready again to add a few more tidbits about our crazy month of July. Lets start off with Mike. With her being on drill team she got the opportunity with her drill mates to teach Mini Drill. They were required to sign up a few girls for this even, so being a good sister Steph decided to sign up. They had 3 classes then got to have a little performance where the girls got to dance and the drill also got to dance. I did have photos of them dancing, but when I cleaned my computer desktop off I think I threw one of my files out. NOT GOOD OF ME! So if I come across those photos I will post them. ( I have been sitting here searching for them for about 1 hour!). So next comes all the Ute Stampede fun! We went to the horse parade on Thursday. But do you think me and the girls watched...heck no we were busy fighting over Gavin. I think Becky had her arms full! Ok so we snuck out of the parade early to get down to the fairgrounds for the rodeo. We debated where to sit this year. Should we sit in our normal spot or should we sit in the new section. Kurtis and Debbie battled over it (LOL) and Debbie won. She wanted to be on the east side so she had easy access to her corn dog from the carnival. I kinda like our normal spot too. We waited for the sky diver to come down with the flag, but it was to windy and he couldn't make the jump. So the flag was held up in the arena. As you can see in these next few photos that yes the wind was blowing! ok, so maybe you can't tell how bad it was blowing, i just remember it felt like my hair was all over the place...even in the neighbors food...JK And of course we weren't paying to much attention to the rodeo, Gavin kept us entertained. Ok, so we got our Thursday night rodeo done. It was nice to have the Wild Child back. That is the best part of the rodeo. I could have defiantly done without the wind though! Maybe next year. Any way Friday was the Mammoth parade. Me and Sam were the only ones watching the parade out of our family. Kurtis went through with the fire dept, Steph and Mike both went through with Mini Drill. The fire dept. looked very nice in their formal uniforms. Hey Look! It's Kurtis.
And of course Mike would have to be on the opposite side of the truck then us! Geez Mike! LOL at least Steph was on the right side! Here she is sneaking a peak at us while trying to do her dance. Hey thanks Steph for choosing our side!It was a good parade. But I didn't have Steph with me this time to go get my candy for me. So me and Sam went without candy. Ok so on.....Friday night we went to the carnival. Mike went with Jake. He bought her a wrist band for the rides and guess what.........She got sick and threw up. Nice one Mike! Steph and Kloie rode the rides until Mike got so sick and Jake became her new partner. Sam went with Bailee on Saturday and she ended up getting sick also. Tough kids I got there right! And I almost forgot to add that Mike got to dance at the Bathing Beauty judging. I am so glad she the entertainment and not a contestant! Ok that's enough about July for tonight. More to come soon!
Yes, the signs are all over for me that summer is coming to and end! It is so sad to see the time go. Summer is such a wonderful time yet it goes all to fast. I guess that is what makes it so special though is that you have to cherish it while it is here because you know it will be gone soon! Here are a few of the signs that I have been seeing. My garden, yea now there is a big sign. Here is the Squash, pumpkin and tomato plants flourishing massively. Notice my peas are gone, they had their season along with the radishes, turnips and cilantro. My strawberry's struggled due to the little birdies that guarded over the garden. Sneaky little things.
Another Sign is all the vegetables that are rapidly producing in the garden. We have been living off of spaghetti squash and crookneck squash. But hey with the prices of grocery's lately it has been nice. I have also enjoyed my green peppers and cucumbers in my salads and Jalapenos for salsa.
Another Sign is that my flowers in my front mound are finally starting to grow. They finally look they they aren't still in their pony packs. This is in an area where the weeds will not grow either! We h ave landscaping issues here!
My bushes in the back are doing really well and spreading.
My Hens and Chicks (which my kids call "hens and chickens and chickens and eggs") have done really well and are spreading.
And of course a great sign is my garden gloves. They are worn and well used by this time of year!
Another bitter sweet sign is the ending of Me and Mike doing K&J window washing together. During the summer it becomes J & M window washing. Good little job for mike while it helps out Kurtis during his busy year. We are required to do Top Stops windows once every two weeks throughout the year. For those of you on the list for windows, please be patient. We are getting there! We had a crazy summer with softball, then when Kurtis found the time of course the threatening of rain decided to come. Yes another sign of summer ending. Doesn't Mike looked thrilled..hahahah.
A huge sign is when your are getting close to the calendar date marked "School Starts"
And Always, when the county fair comes you know that end of summer is here! But it is always fun to go see the animals, exhibits and entertainment.
My favorite entertainment this year was the Demolitions Derby. I think it was a great derby this year. Here are some of my favorite photos I shot.
And always at the derby I am a widowed, the fire department is there to assist with any fires which means Kurtis is out there and I am sitting alone with the family. But this year Kim Howard and her family sat with us. She is also a fire department widow. But we are thankful for our men doing their job.
Here is Kurtis helping out on a couple of fires that happened. He is the one in the red hat.
The kids enjoyed the Demolition Derby.
But the best entertainment was my great Nephew Triston who treated us with his awesome dance abilities while the music was playing. Let me tell you, if you want some dance lessons...this is the boy to come to. What a cutie he is!
But there you go, the end of summer is coming and there is no stopping it. I guess we just go with the flow and look forward to next summer. This summer was filled with some great memories! And now we can move on to the next stage in life......FALL!
